Ingredients
- 1 pie crust
- 1 egg, beaten, for brushing
- Coarse sugar, for sprinkling
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (I used Hershey’s Kisses)
- Flaky sea salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place rack in lower third of oven. Fit the pie crust in pie plate. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sugar over it, especially on the edges. Prick with fork. Freeze for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile add butter to sauce pan over medium heat and cook until it begins to brown, about 5 minutes. (Mine took a little longer). Remove from heat.
Whisk brown sugar and eggs until well combined. Add syrup and cream. Whisk in butter and vanilla until smooth. Fold in chocolate. Pour into crust. Bake 60 minutes. (Mine took 1 hour and 15 minutes). Let cool for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with sea salt. Serve with whip cream or ice cream.
