  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons butter extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • Sanding sugar for garnish

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Whisk flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.  Cut in butter until mixture is like cornmeal.  I started with a pastry cutter and ended up using my hands.  Set aside. Stir eggs and cream together.  Add butter extract to this mixture.  Pour into flour mixture and stir with wooden spoon until just blended.  Stir in chocolate chips.  Turn out onto lightly floured surface.  Press with your hands into a 1” thick circle or rectangle.  Cut out, sprinkle tops with sanding sugar and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes.

*I adapted this from The Glenwood Tea Room Cocoa Scones recipe.  You can edit this recipe to make Cocoa Scones by omitting the butter extract and chocolate chips but add 1/2 cup cocoa.
